Despite Ravara's impressive qualifications, she met challenges in her job search. Her resume did not adequately convey her extensive experience, hindering her progress to the interview stage.
In today's competitive job market, where technology plays a crucial role in resume screening, Ravara's struggle is common. Resumes must meet high standards in quality, readability, and scannability while highlighting the candidate's qualifications relevant to the job.
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS’) are commonly used on websites and job boards to scan incoming resumes for relevant keywords, ensuring that those with the most relevant experience are brought to the attention of the recruiter or hiring manager.
However, ATS’ can be finicky in how they read documents, and 75% of resumes submitted today are rejected by ATS because of the way they are formatted. Additionally, with the large number of people applying for jobs, only around 30% of applicants receive an interview.
When an Ontario college posted an Educator and Curriculum Designer role in 2022, Ravara didn’t want to miss this opportunity. Determined to get past the screening phase and land an interview, she knew she needed a resume positioning her as the perfect candidate for the role.
